Summary
An electron microscope study has been made of the generative cell in Endymion non-scripta. At interphase microtubules are found in bundles against the cell wall, aligned with the long axis of the cell. These microtubules are frequently cross-linked. Mitotic spindle microtubules at prophase show no cross-linking. The implications of this result for a proposed model for mitosis are discussed.
