Summary
In guinea pigs the acid phosphatase in the parotid gland has been studied (electromicroscopic method Essner and Novikoff, 1961). The normal parotid gland and its changes in fasting animals receiving pilocarpine has been investigated. In all stages the acid phosphatase reaction is only positive in lysosomes and lipofuscin bodies of the striated duct cells. The intensity of the reaction in lysosomes has its culmination point in fasting animals and is reduced after feeding or the treatment with pilocarpine.
