A modified microrespirometer

Summary

A simple device sensitive to 0.0001 c. c. for measuring oxygen consumption of a few milligrams of tissue is described. It incorporates a compensation chamber of large ratio (300∶1) to the respiration chamber, and a side arm with mercury piston to manipulate the dimethylaniline droplet and serve as a built-in calibrating device. The apparatus is compact, easy to clean, and the readings are directly translatable into volume without correction formulae.
