Summary

  1. 1.

    The gustatory sense of a newt for salty substances has been investigated by the dresseur method.

  2. 2.

    Most of the inorganic salty compounds seem to show the similar kind of taste for the newt.

  3. 3.

    The organic salty compounds seem to have tastes different from the inorganic compounds above mentioned, though sodium malate showed a trace of the positive reaction seen in salty chemicals.
