Summary
-
1.
According to the changing ratios of weight and number of spirals of the shell, the post-embryogenesis of Helix pomatia L. is subdivided into three phases of development: E 1, E 2, E 3.
-
2.
These phases are correlated with certain periods in the development of the circum esophageal ring, the secretory nerve cells, and probably also the ovotestis.
-
3.
A classification of the nerve cells into type I cells (normal nerve cells) and type II cells (secretory nerve cells) is possible throughout the entire development.
-
4.
As far as post-embryogenic development and secretory activity are concerned, fundamental cytological differences are found between type II cells of the postcerebrum/sub-pharyngeal ganglion (type IIa), and the cells of the mesocerebrum (type IIb) and normal nerve cells (type I).
-
5.
The course of development of the meso-and procerebrum is exceptional. The neuro-secretory cells of the mesocerebrum are active starting from the transitional stage E 1/E 2; from this period onwards they are connected, via the arterial nerve, with the vascular system. The function of the cells of the neuroendocrine system is discussed in relation to the development of the ovotestis.
-
6.
During post-embryogenesis the complex: procerebrum-cerebral gland is subjected to histological changes; however, these do not give any information on its function.
Zusammenfassung
-
1.
