Summary
Supraoptic neurons of the hedgehog contain round osmiophilic inclusions similar to those described in neurosecretory neurons of other species. They also contain elongated “crystal-like” bodies, which have hitherto only been observed in the distal parts of neurohypophysial nerve fibres, and only in the hedgehog. The observations reported here suggest that two distinct types of neurosecretory inclusion may be elaborated within a single cell.
