Abstract

A method for the preparation of Xenopus laevis lampbrush chromosomes is given and a map of the eighteen chromosomes is presented. The main structures and their variability have been described. At the observed stage, chiasmata are distributed distally. The shorter the chromosome, the more distally are the chiasmata. Centromere positions could not be localized.
