Abstract
This article is a report on work done in developing open-ended investigations as a component in an undergraduate mathematics degree course. The context and organisation of the work is described, and sources of fruitful problems are discussed, along with issues of supervision and assessment. An important part of the article is an account of some particular student's investigations, with a report on student attitudes.
