Dislocation of the incus

Summary

The present investigation deals with an analysis of the tomographic findings in an earlier published material of dislocations of the incus. Of 34 patients in whom tomography was performed, agreement between the tomographic and surgical findings was found in 22. In nine patients the tomograms were considered not conclusive. In three the discrepancy is more or less unexplainable. The importance of the optimum technique is stressed, and the technique is described and discussed. In six patients the incus could not be found during operation, but is with certainty present at tomography in at least three. The conclusion is that neither a tomographic finding nor a surgical finding is to be considered as the final truth.

Zusammenfassung

Die durchgeführten Untersuchungen stellen eine Analyse tomographischer Befunde früher veröffentlichter Fälle von Amboßdislokation dar. Von 34 Patienten, bei denen ein Tomogramm durchgeführt wurde, fand sich bei 22 eine Übereinstimmung der röntgenologischen und chirurgischen Befunde. Bei 9 Patienten war das Tomogramm nicht beweiskräftig. In weiteren 3 Fällen ist die Diskrepanz nicht erklärbar. Die Bedeutung einer optimalen Technik wird betont, die Technik beschrieben und diskutiert. Bei 6 Patienten konnte der Amboß während der Operation nicht aufgefunden werden, war aber mit Sicherheit — zumindest in 3 Fällen — auf dem Tomogramm sichtbar. Aus den Untersuchungen ergibt sich, daß weder die tomographischen noch die chirurgischen Befunde letzten Aufschluß geben.
