Reaction of a wound to Epigard® in animal experiments

Chirurgia plastica Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

The reaction of wounds to Epigard was studied in rats. Epigard adhered firmly to wounds and was infiltrated towards the 9th day by a granulation tissue rich in cells. Foreign body reaction was marked on the 14th day. Changing the Epigard repeatedly showed a faster ingrowth of tissue which was highly vascularized. Vascularization of the wound bed was more pronounced under Epigard treatment than with the use of homograft skin. Temporary covering of a fresh surgical wound with Epigard was as effective as with homograft skin in keeping the wound ready for autotransplantation.
