Analysis of the size alleles of the Pro gene in maize — Evidence for a mutant protein processor

  • Published:
Molecular and General Genetics MGG Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

Two major proteins in the maize embryo are specified by gene Pro on the long arm of chromosome 1. The gene is polymorphic and size alleles have been found which produce proteins of different molecular weights as well as CRM- null alleles. Evidence is presented for a protein processor which is specific for the PRO proteins. The processor gene, Mep has been mapped to the long arm of chromosome 5.
