Summary
The development of damage to the articular cartilage of the patello-femoral joint depends on many factors. Pathological distribution of pressure in the joint may be one such cause. Direct measurement is required to clarify the question of low and high pressure in this joint. A pressure measuring plate has been made in the form of an air cushion which enables the measurement both of pressure and contact area in the knee joint. Tests using three cadaver knee joints and the results are described.
Résumé
La survenue de lésions cartilagineuses au niveau de l'articulation fémoro-patellaire dépend de multiples facteurs. Une distribution anormale des pressions peut être l'un de ces facteurs. La mesure directe de ces pressions est nécessaire pour clarifier la question. Aussi les auteurs ont-ils imaginé un systéme de mesure sous forme d'un coussin gonflé d'air qui permet à la fois la mesure des pressions et des zones de contact dans l'articulation du genou. Ils présentent les résultats expérimentaux obtenus sur les genoux de trois cadavres.
