Summary

The EEG of the cortex and the hippocampus has been recorded in rabbits after injection of substance P into the carotis artery. 30 to 100 units of substance P evoced the following effects:

  1. 1.

The cortical activity showed a decrease in amplitude and an increase in frequency, most pronounced 1–2 min after the injection.

  2. 2.

The hippocampus activity showed an increase in frequency synchronisation of the previously irregular basic pattern. These changes of electrical activity suggest an influence of substance P on activatingsystems.
