Summary

1. Experiment with hepatectomized rats show that after single feeding with C14 labeled glucose and ammonium phosphate the regenerated liver protein contains labeled carbon.

2. When sugar is fed simultaneously with a mixture of essential amino acids the uptake of C14 is greater than the uptake on feeding labeled sugar 4 hours after administration of the essential amino acids.

3. When sugar was fed 4 hours before feeding the essential amino acid mixture the C14 uptake was similar to that observed on simultaneous feeding.

4. An analysis of the labeled protein shows that arginine contains the largest quantities of C14. Alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, glycine and serine followin in order. No C14 could be discovered either in the other non-essential or in the essential amino acids.
