Summary
Electroencephalographic arousal and behavioral excitation elicited by morphine injected intraventricularly were abolished by local anesthetics introduced into the cerebrospinal fluid. It is suggested that local anesthetics paralyze intraventricular chemoreceptors, stimulation of which is the origin of morphine exicitement.
