Summary
-
1.
The presence of hydroxy-tyramine in extracts from sympathetic nerves (splenic nerves) and sympathetic ganglia (stellata ganglia) is shown by paper-chromatography and pharmacological assay.
-
2.
The hydroxy-tyramine content of the extracts is nearly 50% of the total amount of catechol-amines.
-
3.
This result indicates that hydroxy-tyramine — formed by the 1(—) dopadecarboxylase of the nervous tissue — is the precursor of the nor-adrenaline in sympathetic nerves and ganglia, and furthermore that the biosynthesis of nor-adrenaline from hydroxy-tyramine will take place in the nervous tissue itself.
