Abstract
Mottles located in the dark lanes that form the Hα chromospheric network are longer lived than those that lie within network cells. The two groups of mottles are similar in size and shape. Bright mottles are found to be slightly larger than dark ones, with a different distribution of lifetimes, but no difference in shape or in number of mottles. Determination of mottle lifetime from the fraction surviving after various time intervals can give misleading results unless the time resolution is much smaller than the lifetime. Bhavilai's description of bright streaks is confirmed.
