Abstract

The problems associated with the accurate determination of the total and spectral irradiances of the Sun are discussed. It is estimated that an ultimate accuracy of the order of 2 to 5 × 10−4 should be aimed at and be feasible for total solar irradiance measurements made with second generation objectively characterised absolute radiometers.
