Abstract
By recent estimation, the total annual runoff in China is about 2,638 km3, corresponding to 2,670 m3 per capita. The water problems of China are due to the uneven distribution of water resources and rapid increase of water demand, which have brought many difficulties in flood control and water supply. In this paper, characteristics of water resources and present situation of water resources development, conservation and utilization are discussed.
