Robert Schönmayr MD, PhD, Director Robert Schönmayr is a Professor and Chairman for the Neurosurgical Department at the HSK Dr. Horst Schmidt Kliniken in Wiesbaden, Germany. After graduating in 1980 in Neurosurgery from the University of Gießen, he spent 4 years conducting experimental studies on brain tissue concentrations of cytostatic drugs after intravenous and intra-arterial application.
He developed a new intracranial and a spinal endoscope and the respective surgical technique in 1995 and is responsible for the development and first clinical application of new titanium implants for cervical interbody fusion in 1997.
Professor Schönmayr is a member of several medical advisory boards for the development of innovative spinal interbody devices. He has delivered lectures and given courses in multiple countries around the world.
Since 2009 he is conducting a study for the implantation of a new facet replacement.
