Abstract
Maximum values of the average annual atmospheric dilution factor for radioactive discharges of the Kursk, Rostov, and Beloyarsk nuclear power plants (NPPs) are calculated for every year during 2000–2019. The normal distribution of the calculated values is shown for all considered NPPs. The ratio of the 20-year maximum value of the average annual atmospheric dilution factor to the average value is estimated to be 1.6 for the Kursk NPP, 1.4 for Rostov NPP, and 1.2 for the Beloyarsk NPP. The maximum atmospheric dilution factor evaluated using the averaged long-term data (2000–2019) differs by not more than 16% from the values obtained by averaging the maximum dilution factors for every year. It is shown that the method of using meteorological data in average long-term, which is applied in regulatory guidance establishing the levels of maximum permissible atmospheric discharges of radionuclides from the NPPs, is acceptable for the radiation and environmental safety assessment.
