New Concept of Pipe Rolling Unit with a Continuous Mill

  • Published:
Steel in Translation Aims and scope

Abstract

Based on the analysis of possible configuration variants for a pipe rolling unit (PRU) and modern trends in the development of seamless pipe rolling technology, a new combination of equipment for an advanced pipe rolling complex with a continuous mill is proposed, which solves the problems of expanding the grade range of manufactured products, as well as of improving technological flexibility and productivity. The distinctive feature of the novel PRU consists in the installing of two piercing mills of different types, which makes it possible to perform a double piercing of a pipe billet made of high-alloy steels, expands the size range of billets, and provides an increase in the actual service life of the unit.
