Investigation of Mechanism and Kinetics of Oxidation of Iron-Ore Magnetite Materials at Low Temperatures

Steel in Translation Aims and scope

Abstract

Oxidation of magnetite is most essential within the complex set of physicochemical processes, which follow annealing of magnetite iron-ore pellets. Using derivatographic and mineralogical methods, mechanism and kinetic parameters of oxidation on the specimens from Ol’khovskoe magnetite and Kachkanarskoe titanomagnetite concentrates were studied. Effect of partial oxygen pressure in the gas phase on the kinetics of oxidation was considered. The apparent activation energy values of the process were determined by the temperature dependence of the oxidation rate at the specified degree of conversion. Results of this work can be valuable for the optimization of the conditions of low-temperature oxidation of iron-ore materials (pellets) on annealing conveyor-type machine.
