Abstract

In this paper, we present a comparison between our stopping power model and other models from bibliography at medium projectile energies for partially ionized plasmas, containing dominant concentrations of ions with A > 2. Our stopping power model takes into account free and bound electron stopping power contributions while the other models only consider free electron contributions. Other perturbative and nonperturbative free electron stopping power models are discussed for typical plasma parameters finding differences of up to 320%. Our model results are the lowest ones, obtaining values by 50% lower than other perturbative models depending on the plasma ionization considered. The stopping power of the target in plasma state compared to the target in solid state is between 50% higher, in case of our model, that seems more appropriate, and 530%, in case of the SSM model, that seems very overestimated. These large differences clearly show the need to compare the results from the models with experimental results in plasmas to determine which stopping model is more appropriate.
