Estimation of the rate constants of the Pu(VI) + O 3 reaction in alkaline solutions

Abstract

Analysis of the published data showed that the rate constant k of the reactions of O 3 with Np(V) and Np(VI) in alkaline solutions correlates with the potentials of the Np(VI/V) and Np(VII/VI) couples. This fact allowed the rate constants k for the Pu(V) + O 3 и Pu(VI) + O 3 reactions to be estimated from the known formal potentials of the Pu(VI/V) and Pu(VII/VI) couples in 1 M NaOH solution. The values of approximately 1.25 × 106 and 6.3 × 104 L mol−1 s−1, respectively, were obtained.
