Abstract

The problems that arise in determining the fracture toughness characteristics of parts (stress intensity factor) with allowance for the defects contained in them are considered. A special installation using alternating an electric current is proposed. It can be used to measure the electrical resistance of a sample using the change in the alternating electric current in the place where a crack grows and when it grows. The proposed installation is described; its stability is studied when the load, the sample temperature, and the supply voltage change; and its sensitivity to errors in the location of welded electrodes is investigated.
