Abstract

Potentiometry is used to study the kinetics of electrochemical oxidation and reduction of thallium in aqueous solutions of hydrochloric acid. Kinetic parameters are calculated to characterize the mechanism of the electro-oxidation of thallium: coefficient of diffusion D, heterogeneous rate constant ks of the electrode process, and effective activation energy Eeff. The effect the modes of electrolysis (current density, electrolyte concentration, and temperature) have on the dimensional characteristics of the obtained thallium(I) chloride is studied. The optimum parameters of electrolysis for preparing dispersed powders of thallium(I) chloride are revealed.
