Structural and phase sensitivity of the maximum differential magnetic susceptibility of steel

Russian Metallurgy (Metally) Aims and scope

Abstract

It is shown that the maximum differential magnetic permeability (μ dm ) and susceptibility (χ dm ) of steel are fully determined by its coercive force, remanent magnetization, and technical saturation magnetization. The sensitivity of χ dm to the structure- and phase-sensitive parameters of a metal is analyzed. The problems of controlling metal manufacture conditions that can be solved by measuring χ dm or μ dm are determined.
