China’s Book Retail Market Generates 10 % Growth for 2014, Maintaining a Leading Position in the World

Abstract

According to the research of OpenBook China, the value of overall Chinese book retail market was more than 50 billion Yuan in 2014, of which the physical bookstore retail channel scale was about 34 billion Yuan, and the online retail channel reached 20 billion Yuan. The total book retail market including online and physical channels achieved a growth rate of about 10 %. It is a remarkable growth even in the whole world. In China, children’s book market continued to maintain high growth in the past few years. Resulting from bestsellers, biography and literature were in high positive growth rate.

  1. “OpenBook Retail Sales Monitoring System” that has collected physical bookstores’ terminal sales data for 16 years since July 1998 and the data has been maintaining good representation and stability. The database of OpenBook includes more than 2400 physical bookstores, 20 online bookstores and some platform stores.
