Abstract
The present article represents a one pot indigenous method of block copolymer synthesis free radically via sequential addition of monomers. Emphasizing the fact of sequential addition of monomers to form di-block and triblock copolymers of styrene(S) and n-butyl acrylate (B), have been attempted using, cis-1,1- diphenylethylene (DPE) as end capping agent. In order to produce living polymeric radical with the probability of further propagation of main chain, DPE played a significant role to reestablish the connectivity of the second block over the seemed to be dead polymeric block (first block). To establish a simple methodology to prepare block copolymers without further convolution, the reaction was first carried out in emulsion-based system followed by solution polymerization. The resulting block copolymers were characterized using basic tools such as FTIR, DSC and TGA followed by some advance techniques such as GPC, GCMS and AFM, respectively. At every stage of characterization, the behavior of resulting copolymer has been critically explained. In conclusion, the limitation of this methodology and application of the end product has also been scrutinized.
