Abrief historical sketch is made of the activities of the Department of Silicate and Nanomaterials Technology at the National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University – the first technical university in Asiatic Russia. Originally, a laboratory for the chemical technology of mineral substances since 1929 it is the department of silicate technology and since 2007 the department of silicates and nanomaterials technology. Currently, the department is one of the leading scientific and educational centers of the country for the study of silicate raw materials, the development of advanced technologies for ceramics, binders, and glass materials, and in training engineers and scientists specializing in the relevant fields.
