Chemical Constituents of Pittosporum illicioides

  • Published:
Chemistry of Natural Compounds Aims and scope

3-Oxo-20-demethylisoaleuritolic-14(15)-ene-28,30-dioic acid (1), a novel triterpenoid, has been isolated from the ethanolic extract of Pittosporum illicioides, together with eight known compounds, i.e., stearic acid (2), 6,7-dimethoxycoumarin (3), 7-hydroxy-6-methoxycoumarin (4), 4,4-dimethylheptanedioic acid (5), syringic acid (6), syringaresinol (7), zhebeiresinol (8), and hacquetiasaponin 4 (9). The structures of these compounds were determined by detailed spectroscopic methods including HR-ESI-MS and 1D and 2D NMR. Compounds 4, 5, 8, 9 were isolated from P. illicioides for the first time. Moreover, it was found that compound 1 showed potent antitumor activity against A549 cells.
