Zusammenfassung

Die Sportneurologie beschäftigt sich traditionell vorwiegend mit sporttraumatologischen Schädigungen zentral- und peripher-nervaler Strukturen. In den letzten beiden Dekaden wuchs jedoch sowohl das basiswissenschaftliche Verständnis von Effekten von Sport und körperlicher Aktivität auf das Gehirn als auch die Evidenz für die Wirksamkeit von Sport und Bewegung in der Prävention und symptomatischen Therapie neurologischer Erkrankungen. Teilweise mehren sich nach jahrzehntelangen Verboten für Sport und Bewegung bei vielen neurologischen Erkrankungen sogar wissenschaftliche Hinweise auf krankheitsmodulierende Effekte durch Sport und körperliche Aktivität, wenngleich differenzialtherapeutische Effekte bezüglich optimaler Art und Intensität von Sport noch nicht wissenschaftlich geklärt sind. Da neurologische Erkrankungen in Deutschland und weltweit zunehmend zu Morbidität und Mortalität beitragen, spielen sport- und bewegungsinduzierte therapeutische und präventive Effekte nicht nur für Sportmediziner eine immer größere Rolle.
