Zusammenfassung

Zytokine sind die Botenstoffe, die das Ausmaß einer entzündlichen Reaktion auf pathogene Keime und einer Autoimmunreaktion regulieren; sie können pro- oder antiinflammatorisch wirken. In den letzten 20 Jahren sind zahlreiche Medikamente zugelassen worden, die die Wirkung von Zytokinen modulieren und damit antientzündlich wirksam sind. In dem folgenden Kapitel werden Antagonisten von TNF-α, IL-1, IL-6, IL-17 sowie IL-12 und IL-23 in ihrer Wirkungsweise und praktischen Anwendung vorgestellt. Biologika sind Substanzen, die von genetisch veränderten Organismen in einem biologischen Prozess – im Unterschied zu einem chemischen Prozess – hergestellt werden. Dazu gehören gegen Zytokine gerichtete monoklonale Antikörper (MAK) und Fusionsproteine (FP).
