Zusammenfassung

Eine sichere und wirksame Arzneimittelanwendung bei Kindern und Jugendlichen erfordert fundierte Kenntnisse zur Bedeutung der Ontogenese für die Aufnahme, Verteilung, Metabolisierung, Ausscheidung und Wirkung von Arzneimitteln. Als Leitprinzip gilt, dass Kinder nicht als kleine Erwachsene betrachtet werden können. Obwohl dieser Sachverhalt schon zum Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts offenkundig war, wird er bei der Arzneimitteltherapie im Kindesalter auch heute noch viel zu wenig oder manchmal überhaupt nicht berücksichtigt.
