Zusammenfassung
Thoraxtraumata sind häufige Verletzungen, sodass die fachliche Auseinandersetzung mit dieser Verletzungsentität unabdingbar ist. Nahezu arbeitstäglich wird man mit Verletzungen des Thorax konfrontiert. Die Ausprägung der Thoraxbeteiligung bzw. die Verletzungsschwere sind dabei sehr unterschiedlich und nach wie vor bei höhergradigen Verletzungen mit einer hohen Mortalität vergesellschaftet. Neben der Verletzungsentstehung, z. B. im Rahmen von Verkehrsunfällen mit häufig begleitendem komplexen Verletzungsmuster oder schweren Monotraumata, spielen auf Grund des zunehmenden demografischen Wandels auch Bagatelltraumata, wie ebenerdige Stürze, eine zunehmende Rolle, da diese je nach Gesamtkonstitution des Patienten bereits relevante Thoraxverletzungen verursachen können. Weiterhin stellen auf Grund des seltenen Vorkommens in Deutschland penetrierende Thoraxverletzungen unter Umständen eine besondere Herausforderung dar.
