Zusammenfassung

Bis zu 15 % der unfallbedingten Krankenhausaufnahmen können einem thorakalen Trauma zugeordnet werden. Bei thorakalen Verletzungen ist ein stumpfer Unfallmechanismus führend, penetrierende Verletzungen variieren je nach geografischer Region stark und werden mit einer Rate zwischen 0,2 % bis hin zu 80 % in Gebieten mit einer hohen Rate an Gewaltverbrechen angegeben. Zu unterscheiden sind hierbei isolierte Thoraxtraumata, meist durch stumpfe Gewalteinwirkungen verursacht und mit weniger schweren Verletzungen wie Prellungen und Rippenfrakturen verbunden, und Hochrasanzverletzungen zum Beispiel beim Polytrauma.
