Zusammenfassung

Die Menschheit wird immer älter. Die Lebenserwartung hat sich in Deutschland von 46 Jahren im Jahre 1900 um mehr als 30 Jahre erhöht. Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts galten Menschen mit 40 Jahren als Greise, und schwedische Frauen wiesen mit einer Lebenserwartung von 45 Jahren die längste Lebensspanne auf. In Deutschland wird etwa die Hälfte der heute neugeborenen Mädchen vermutlich den 100. Geburtstag erleben und jeder zweite neugeborene Junge wird mindestens 95 Jahre alt werden.
