Zusammenfassung
Internationale Statistiken zeigen, dass die Mehrheit der Straftäter unter einer oder mehreren psychischen Störungen leidet. Psychische Störungen werden somit ungewollt zu einem Teil der Polizeiarbeit. In diesem Kapitel wird der Zusammenhang zwischen den mit Aggression verbundenen psychischen Störungen und der Gewaltdelinquenz untersucht. Gewalttäter lassen sich grob in drei Typen von Tätern einteilen, die sich erheblich voneinander unterscheiden: proaktive, reaktive und psychotische Täter. In diesem Kapitel geben wir einen Überblick über die psychiatrischen Störungen, die mit diesen Typologien in Verbindung gebracht werden, über die grundlegenden Merkmale der Straftat, die psychologischen Aspekte, den biologischen Hintergrund und die Langzeitprognose. Ferner bewerten wir auf dieser Grundlage die Merkmale der kriminellen Karrieren von Straftätern, die zu den einzelnen Straftypen gehören. Am Ende des Kapitels werden die Bedingungen, Möglichkeiten und Formen der praktischen Anwendung der psychiatrischen – und insbesondere der kriminalpsychiatrischen – Theorie diskutiert. Zusammenfassend besteht das Ziel dieses Kapitels darin, Polizeibeamten nach einer notwendigen und ausreichenden Darstellung des theoretischen Hintergrunds praktisches Wissen zu vermitteln, das das Risiko verringert, dass sie selbst oder Verdächtige unangemessenen Schaden erleiden, und die Erfolgswahrscheinlichkeit des Vorgehens dadurch erhöhen kann.
