Zusammenfassung
Die Digitalisierung des Politischen wirkt sich auf die Weise aus, wie sich politische Öffentlichkeit konstituiert. Am Beispiel von politischen Vorhersagemärkten lässt sich zeigen, dass digitale Kommunikation über das Politische neue Verfahrensformen begünstigt, die sich der Prozessstruktur finanzieller Transaktionen annähern. Indem politische Vorhersagemärkte die Frage der Kommunikation über politische Zukünfte auf ein Verfahren herunterbrechen, mittels dessen Teilnehmende Wetten auf Mehrheitsansichten zu dieser Frage eingehen, stehen sie in einer komplexen Genealogie von Verständnissen von Öffentlichkeit: erstens in der Tradition, öffentliche Meinung als verborgenen, zu enthüllenden Tatbestand zu betrachten, die schon die politische Umfrageforschung auszeichnet: zweitens in einer neoliberalen Tradition, der zufolge der Wettbewerbsmarkt eine überlegene Form sozialer Koordination darstellt.
