Über die Methode des „Mapping of Controversies“

Zusammenfassung

Der Beitrag diskutiert einen innovativen, in Forschung und Lehre realisierbaren Ansatz: das „Mapping of Controversies“ (MoC). Das Mapping bietet die Möglichkeit, den Big Data-Schatz zu heben, ohne mit starken Vorannahmen zu operieren. Der Ansatz kann gleichzeitig als Antithese zu den bisweilen neopositivistisch-objektivistisch daherkommenden Computational Social Science verstanden werden, sofern offensiv die Situierheit von Forschenden und Forschungsgegenständen reflektiert wird. Entstanden ist das MoC im Umfeld der Science and Technology Studies beziehungsweise der Akteur-Netzwerk-Theorie. Durch die Fokussierung auf Kontroversen soll die Transformation von Gesellschaft analytisch begleitet und ein Beitrag geleistet werden zur Hervorbringung entsprechender Problem-Öffentlichkeiten: Das Experimentieren mit neuen Darstellungs- und Erzählformen zielt auf die öffentliche „Bewertbar-Machung“ von Kontroversen. Wir stellen epistemologische Grundlagen des MoC vor, um daraufhin anhand von Fallbeispielen zu diskutieren, inwiefern es seine Versprechen zu halten geeignet ist. So werden Bedingungen identifiziert, die zur Umsetzung dieses vielversprechenden bewertungssoziologischen Ansatzes beitragen.
