Zusammenfassung

In der Intensivmedizin werden aufgrund von steigender Lebenserwartung und neuen, oft speziellen Behandlungsoptionen ein zunehmender Kapazitätsbedarf sowie ein Ungleichgewicht zwischen Angebot an hochqualifizierten Intensivmedizinern und deren Verfügbarkeit prognostiziert. Durch eine zurückgehende Anzahl von Ärzten in der Intensivmedizin sowie eine ebenfalls sinkende Zahl an Absolventen medizinischer Hochschulen ist abzusehen, dass es zukünftig zu einem Versorgungsengpass im intensivmedizinischen Bereich kommen wird. Daraus ergibt sich die Notwendigkeit der Etablierung innovativer Versorgungskonzepte, um den Engpass zu verhindern und die medizinische Versorgung weiterhin zu gewährleisten.
