Zusammenfassung

Telemedizin ist eine mögliche Option, um auf die soziodemografischen Herausforderungen des 21. Jahrhunderts zu reagieren und eine Qualitätssicherung und -verbesserung zu erreichen. Der demografische Wandel geht mit einer Zunahme von Komorbiditäten sowie sinkenden Zahlen medizinischer Leistungserbringer einher. Vor diesem Hintergrund ist ein Ungleichgewicht zwischen der Nachfrage nach medizinischen Leistungen und der Verfügbarkeit von medizinischem Personal absehbar. Dieses Ungleichgewicht wird bereits jetzt im ländlichen Bereich spürbar. Die allseitige Verfügbarkeit leistungsfähiger, mobiler und vernetzter Hardware sowie vernetzbarer Medizingeräte für den häuslichen Bereich schaffen nicht nur Bedürfnisse, sondern ermöglichen oft auch telemedizinische Lösungen. Der weiter voranschreitende Breitbandausbau begünstigt diese Entwicklung. Anhand eines Best-Practice-Projekts aus der Intensivmedizin der Uniklinik RWTH Aachen werden die Anforderungen und Potenziale der Tele-Intensivmedizin aufgezeigt.
