Abstract

This paper investigates the application of Multiple, Heterogeneous Case Based Reasoning (MHCBR) using agents operating on different structures/views of the problem domain in a transparent and autonomous way to retrieve solutions for a new problem from more than one case-base. An MHCBR framework is proposed. This framework includes sub-processes for subscribing of provider case-bases through agents, creating a dynamic structure, and retrieving solutions by using agents and employing a Blackboard communication architecture.

A mechanism based on the competence of a provider case base is introduced to improve MHCBR performance. A negotiation system to support the retrieval process from each source case base of the MHCBR is proposed. ProMHCBR, a MHCBR system employing agents is discussed and an experimental evaluation of this system is presented.
