Abstract
Healthy aging in women is a physiological process modulated by special features particularly occurring during the perimenopausal period. The dermal extracellular matrix is involved in this process linked to hypoestrogenemia. In these instances, the skin presentation is occasionally indicative of some distinct internal failures. Measuring the in vivo mechanical functions of skin represents a convenient means for quantifying the perimenopausal skin changes. Such assessments have shown a beneficial effect of hormone replacement therapy on the skin status.
