Abstract

Exploring the Solar system with robotic spacecraft uses a variety of techniques and experiments, ranging from remote sensing, to in-situ measurements and typically culminating in sample return for detailed and thorough analysis on Earth. Remote sensing experiments are related to and sometimes derived from those developed for Earth or astronomical applications. This chapter summarizes the principles of planetary data acquisition, remote sensing and in-situ experiments.
