Abstract

There have been many iterations of robotic devices and platforms, which have progressively built on one another to arrive at what we have today. There are also other new systems and platforms being developed that will continue to push technology and possibilities for the future. This chapter focuses on the current commercially available systems and platforms that are in everyday use. The da Vinci Si and Xi models, as well as the Single-Site Platform from Intuitive Surgical, will be discussed. Each system will be described in depth, including the components that are evolved, differences between them, and advantages of each. The Single-Site Platform, which comprises specially designed instruments that function through a single operative port, will also be discussed. Finally, two new systems that are currently not available for commercial use will be presented.
