Zusammenfassung
In letzter Zeit wurden öffentlich Bedenken über die Auswirkungen multinationaler Unternehmen aus Schwellenländern geäußert. Die Expansion chinesischer multinationaler Unternehmen nach Europa und die Belt and Road Initiative wurden in einigen Kreisen positiv aufgenommen, haben aber auch zu einem wachsenden Bewusstsein für die möglichen langfristigen Auswirkungen geführt. Dieses Kapitel dient als Einführung in den Sammelband und befasst sich mit den Chancen und Bedenken im Zusammenhang mit diesen Entwicklungen. Während es bereits viel Literatur über ausländische Direktinvestitionen in Schwellenländern und multinationale Unternehmen aus Schwellenländern an sich gibt, konzentriert sich dieses Buch auf das vernachlässigte Thema der (potenziellen) Auswirkungen der Expansion multinationaler Unternehmen aus Schwellenländern nach Europa. Durch die Einbeziehung langfristiger und interdisziplinärer Erkenntnisse eröffnet es eine neue Perspektive auf ein höchst kontroverses Thema. Ausgehend von der Forderung nach einem neuen theoretischen Verständnis, das auf einer (wirtschaftlichen) Mehrebenensicht beruht, Politik und Macht einbezieht und Fragen der Nachhaltigkeit ernst nimmt, werden in diesem Kapitel zentrale Ideen und Erkenntnisse vorgestellt. Der Brückenschlag zwischen den Ideen, die in verschiedenen Bereichen entwickelt wurden, trägt zu einem besseren Verständnis des Wesens und der Rolle multinationaler Unternehmen aus Schwellenländern (EMNCs) in Europa bei. Sie sollen die Entwicklung von Kriterien für nachhaltige Strategien im Umgang mit multinationalen Unternehmen aus Schwellenländern in Europa erleichtern.
