Pedagogy and Andragogy, a Shared Approach to Education in Entrepreneurship for Students in Higher Education

Abstract

Higher education in the twenty-first century has evolved to serve a diversified population. This new reality pushes institutions to recognise the need of a dual approach, in which pedagogy and andragogy coexist within the classroom. From basic knowledge to competency acquisition and subsequent expertise, the journey of education encompasses creativity and multiple strategies to trigger a fluid progression of learning stages, up to the much desired autonomous learning. This chapter focuses on describing the profile of the higher education newcomer and the student entrepreneur, along with the shared approach utilised in entrepreneurship education. The following discussion and the case study visit the interactivity among active and experiential learning strategies, mindset development and mentoring as important components in the process of teaching entrepreneurship. Finally, a framework proposal serves to depict the layered journey of entrepreneurship education, inclusive of pedagogy, andragogy and the interactions in-between.
