Abstract
In the last three decades, we have witnessed a gradual shift from the traditional inpatient endocrine surgery to ambulatory endocrine surgery. This paradigm shift was inspired by the need to reduce healthcare costs. However, the cumulative innovations in medicine have sustained this change and ensured a safe same-day discharge after surgery. While there are logistical and safety challenges inherent in the adoption of ambulatory endocrine surgery, surgical staff and hospital institutions have continued to adopt measures to identify the patients that are most likely to benefit from it. However, appropriate patient selection and patient education are the most critical factors that predict success in any ambulatory endocrine surgery practice.
